Day 2 consisted of taking the tram to the funicular railway to see Petrin Tower. Note to others - when you buy a 3 day pass it isn't 72 hours, it is 3 days including today - we bought one even though we only needed 2 single day passes; a 3-day pass (which covers unlimited travel on tram/bus/metro) costs 220 Kc (crowns) which is about £5.50. A single day pass costs £2 per day. Buy one - you will use it.
The tower was sort-of closed although the caretaker let us in and go to the top. Although only 60 metres tall, once you remember that the tower is on top of a hill, you get some of the best views of the city anywhere:

The weather was fairly wild and I'm not sure that Claire appreciated feeling the tower sway in the high winds, but you can't have everything... ;-)
I think we just spent some time looking round for the rest of the day - the Old Town Square was amazing. Make sure that you see the clock on the turn-of-the-hour - especially the skeleton figure ringing the bell and turning the hourglass.

Dinner was at the U Maltezskych rytiru (Restaurant of the Maltese Knights). It was warm, romantic and homely. The entire thing is in a cavern-like structure. The food was very good and we had a bottle of Czech wine which was very pleasant indeed. Don't have the bottle of water - at £4 it was 1/3 the price of the 2001 vintage wine!
