CityLink parcels tried to deliver a parcel to my house last week; I was out so they left a card.
The card had a map to the Edinburgh depot, Edinburgh office opening times and a contact number on it. I called the 0870 number despite it being national rate, and me not getting 08x numbers in my land line call package. I had to enter the parcel number and the speak the post code, etc, etc.
Once all this was done, they gave me the phone number (0131) for the depot I had thought that I was calling. Why the need for the expensive 0870 number to get the real local number? Remember, the card was an Edinburgh specific card including a map to the depot and remember also that the company you are calling gets a proportion of the revenue from the 0870 number.
A quick way to make a sneaky pound? Surely not!
